Heatmaps - a new analytics tool from unity*dc

We're always looking at ways to improve the effectiveness of websites. After all that cost and trouble of getting people to your website, wouldn't it be a shame to waste that investment because visitors don't make it through to the "golden pages" that make you money? Pages like "order now" or "contact us" or the latest white paper on your new product. Increasing the amount of people that make it through to your golden pages by just a few percent can increase your sales from your website significantly. These people have come to your website because they want something. They're in a buying mood. Don't waste the moment.

For critical pages on your website, such as the homepage or your golden pages, we now have a new tool to make them more efficient. This tool tracks exactly where the visitor clicks with their mouse on the page. It doesn't matter if they hit the right links or they clicked on an area which doesn't link. Even form boxes are tracked. We use that to build up a heatmap showing where people click on the page. It gives you a clear indication of what's drawing people's attention on your page, and you might be surprised by the results.

What do we do with the results? If people are clicking on something that isn't a link, make it one. If people are clicking on an area but missing the link, make the link bigger. Web visitors are a fickle bunch - if they don't get to want they want quickly, they'll move on to another site. By optimising the ease of use of your critical pages we can help your website sell more.
